Entire Nigerian police force mobilized after days of violent protests that have killed at least 69

Nigeria’s inspector general of police on Saturday ordered the mobilization of all officers to “reclaim the public space from criminal elements masquerading as protesters” after days of peaceful demonstrations against police brutality erupted into violence.

According to The Associated Press, M.A. Adamu in a statement ordered colleagues to “dominate the public space” and also called for an end to the unrest that has left at least 69 people dead.

The police inspector general also encouraged “law-abiding citizens not to panic but rather join forces with police … to protect their communities from the criminal elements.”

Nigerians have for weeks demonstrated peacefully in the country pushing for an end to Nigeria’s Special Anti-Robbery Squad over claims of police brutality and abuse.

While the unit was officially dissolved earlier this month, protests continued following reports that some members from the disbanded unit were hired for other roles.

Simon Kinberg to Write New Battlestar Galactica Movie for Universal

The post Simon Kinberg to Write New Battlestar Galactica Movie for Universal appeared first on Consequence of Sound.

The Cylons are preparing for a comeback. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal is working on a new Battlestar Galactica movie, and screenwriter Simon Kinberg has been tapped to both write and produce the franchise.

If there’s anyone prepared to explore a beloved franchise like Battlestar Galactica, it’s Kinberg. He spent years building the backbone of the X-Men movies, writing sci-fi flicks like Jumper and Fantastic Four, and producing features like The Martian and Deadpool. Kinberg’s got the experience to helm a project like this, and luckily he’s already promised to remain faithful to the source material, too.

Battlestar Galactica is one of the holy grails in science fiction, and I couldn’t be more excited about bringing something new to the franchise, while honoring what’s made it so

Colorado East Troublesome Fire burns in national park, nears Estes Park

The fate of Estes Park is now a race between fire and ice, as a snowstorm is due to hit Saturday night and last into Sunday, and is likely to halt the fire’s spread. In anticipation of continued fire growth before then, however, eastern areas of Estes Park have been added to mandatory evacuation orders — the western side of town had been evacuated Thursday — and firefighters were taking steps to defend the town.

Some reports show the fire may have moved significantly closer to Estes Park overnight — perhaps as close as one mile, with firefighters calling in more resources Saturday. In a morning video briefing Saturday, Paul Delmerico, operations section chief on the fire, said the fire is “just west” of the Bear Lake area in Estes Park.

The high winds are preventing fire suppression aircraft from flying, and firefighters are using satellite imagery to locate the

Logan Browning Explains Why Using Her Voice Off-Screen Is Important

So, what do Logan and her co-stars talk about on the set of Dear White People? “Because our nation/country is so divided, our studio has taken the initiative to have talks with cast and crew before we even step on set about what’s best to talk about at work and what would leave some people uncomfortable,” she admitted. “So, because we all want to be there and have a healthy work environment there is a bit of trying to keep the conversation present and appropriate for the workplace. We leave the actual art, the word and the dialogue be the debating part. Leave the debate to the actual dialogue.”

Although the cast doesn’t have uncomfortable conversations on set about current issues, Logan said they are “definitely incorporating the current times in ways that are appropriate” for this upcoming season.

In addition, the Netflix star said she had a “blast”

Today, This Comedy Officially Became Netflix’s Most Popular Movie Of The Month

From a broad perspective, Hubie Halloween has undoubtedly been a big hit on Netflix
NFLX
. The film spent a nearly unprecedented 14 consecutive days atop the Daily Top 10 charts, officially positioning Adam Sandler’s latest film with the potential to become Netflix’s most viral comedy of the year.

But, believe it or not, Hubie Halloween wasn’t even the most popular movie on Netflix this month—until today, that is.

On its 17th day on the Top 10 charts, Hubie Halloween finally earned enough points to pass American Murder: The Family Next Door (which recently became Netflix’s most popular documentary of the year). The crime documentary had held the lead for the entire month until today, when Hubie Halloween’s fourth-place finish on the Daily Top 10 gave it enough points to take hold of the monthly #1 spot (read more about my Netflix points-ranking system here).

Trump campaign requests Nevada court halt early vote counting: lawsuit

The Trump campaign and Nevada Republicans filed a lawsuit on Friday requesting the state court to block the counting of early voting ballots “until the proper procedures are in place.”

According to the lawsuit reported by CBS News, the Trump campaign, the Nevada Republican Party, and a registered voter asked the state’s Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske, a Republican, and a Clark County, Nevada voting official to temporarily block the counting of ballots to “protect the integrity of the 2020 election.”

The lawsuit claims the Clark County registrar did not have a “written plan” for how the public could observe the processing of ballots at polling locations and that the county “intentionally lowered the tolerance number” of a sorting matching that matches signatures for mail-in-ballots with those on file so that it would decrease the number rejected.

Carson City Judge James Wilson denied the request for a temporary restraining order

COVID-19 in Illinois updates: Here’s what’s happening Friday

The county warning list, which the state Department of Public Health issues weekly, includes Kane, McHenry and Will counties, which all came under stricter state regulations Friday aimed at slowing the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Officials also reported 82,256 new tests in the last 24 hours. The seven-day statewide positivity rate is 5.6%.

That case count of 4,942 tops the previous record of 4,554 new cases set just six days earlier and came as new restrictions, including a renewed prohibition on indoor dining and bar service, took effect in southern Illinois and a wide swath of suburban Chicago.

In addition, the city will again prohibit indoor service at traditional taverns and brewery taprooms that don’t have food licenses, and asked residents to cap any social gatherings at six people starting Friday.

Here’s what’s happening Friday with COVID-19 in the Chicago area and Illinois:

Hurricane Chris Indicted On Murder Charges

Hurricane Chris was indicted on second-degree murder charges in Caddo Parish, Louisiana, on October 22. A grand jury agreed to move forward with charges against the 31-year-old rapper born Chris Dooley, stemming a shooting at a Shreveport gas station that left one man dead.

The shooting occurred in June at a Texaco in the Western Louisiana city. Police arrived at the gas station after a shooting was reported in the early morning hours. They found 32-year-old Danzeria O. Farris suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a nearby hospital and later died.

According to the Shreveport Times, Chris claimed that he fired on Farris in self-defense after the latter initiated a fight over Dooley’s car. The police said that footage of the shooting counters Dooley’s claim. He was arrested shortly after the incident.

“Investigators were able to secure video footage of the incident that detectives believe showed
