The Year in Charts 2020: Roddy Ricch Is the Top New Artist
Roddy Ricch caps a banner year on Billboard’s charts, as the 22-year-old hip-hop star is named 2020’s top new artist.
The coronation comes after his debut studio album, Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial, spent four nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 on the weekly Billboard 200 chart earlier in the year, while he also landed a pair of No. 1s on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart that teamed up for 18 weeks atop the list.
Billboard’s year-end music recaps represent aggregated metrics for each artist, title, label and music contributor on the weekly charts dated Nov. 23, 2019, through Nov. 14, 2020. The rankings for Nielsen Music/MRC Data-based year-end recaps reflect equivalent album units, airplay, sales or streaming during the weeks that the titles appeared on a respective chart during the tracking year. Any activity registered before or after a title’s chart run isn’t considered in these rankings.
