A man was detained Tuesday after authorities say he threatened an employee with a knife at a bank in New Caney after being told he needed an appointment.

Ahmed Abdul Raheem, 35, of Porter, is being charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony, according to the Montgomery County Jail records.

Police say Raheem had been at the Wells Fargo banking center at 22420 Community Dr., New Caney earlier in the day requesting to close his account but was informed he needed an appointment to do so, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

After withdrawing all the money from the account, Raheem left the bank. He allegedly returned with a knife, grabbing a bank worker and threatened the employee multiple times, according to the sheriff’s office.

A customer in the bank intervened and subdued Raheem. An off-duty Montgomery County Precinct 2 Constable’s deputy working at the bank detained Raheem, who was injured and taken to a local hospital, according to the sheriff’s office.
