The CMA Awards Promise to Bring Top Country Stars Together ‘Safely, All in One Room’

Music City Center is notably smaller than Bridgestone Arena, the CMA Awards’ home from 2006-19. Sarah Trahern, CMA chief executive officer, alluded to that fact in her statement. “Although the show will feel a bit more intimate this year, we look forward to hosting our nominated artists and their guests as we celebrate the best of country music in a fully safe and physically distant environment. It will be an honor to bring the biggest country stars in the world together – in one room – for the first time this year. You won’t want to miss it!”

Lady A, which has been entangled in a bitter public dispute with Anita White, a Black, Seattle-based singer who uses that same stage name, will perform with Rucker, co-host of this year’s CMA Awards (and the biggest Black country star of his generation). The teaming is seen as lending support to the

Master P Gives Emotional Acceptance Speech At BET Hip Hop Awards | Music

Last night, Master P was honored at the 2020 BET Hip Hop Awards where the hip-hop legend was recognized for his contributions to the Black community and to music.

The award was presented to him by none other than Snoop Dogg, who spoke to the many ways that New Orleans has pushed the envelope.

“Straight out of the New Orleans Calliope projects, Percy Robert Miller is his government name. But we all know him as Master P,”  Snoop began. “This OG took the hood to another level and he put Southern music in our faces in a way that could not be denied. His business acumen was just as aggressive. Master P was one of the first hip hop moguls who laid the blueprint for the independent label, taking a $10,000 investment and turning that into a $250 million dollar empire. He was the first label owner that made

‘Parasite’ Dominates Online Edition of Asian Film Awards

Bong Joon-ho’s “Parasite” predictably dominated the Asian Film Awards. The dark comedy, which won Cannes 2019 and four Oscars, added four further prizes on Wednesday, including best film and best screenplay.

The AFA event this year shifted from its previous base in Hong Kong and Macau to Busan. And it moved its dates from March to October to coincide with the Busan International Film Festival. But the coronavirus pandemic and ongoing travel restrictions meant that the 14th AFA ceremony was an online one.

“Parasite” also claimed prizes for Yang Yinmo’s editing and for Lee Ha-jun’s production design.

“Every member of ‘Parasite,’ no matter how big or small the role is, deserves to make a speech here with me because we made it together. I strongly believe that we will meet in person next year at the Asian Film Awards, shake hands, and enjoy talking with one another without masks. Nothing

Apple TV+ Awards Film Push Heats Up

Streaming services’ push for Oscars becomes harder to ignore every year, and Apple’s role in that push is becoming much clearer as 2020 comes to a close.

Last week, Apple dropped its long-gestating “On the Rocks” feature film, which Variety film awards editor Clayton Davis last week predicted will be nominated for Best PictureFeaturing Bill Murray and Rashida Jones, the film marks a shift from the more serious and non-fiction feature films Apple has released to date.

One of those non-fiction titles is Apple’s documentary original “Boys State,” which released on the service in mid-August. Davis predicts “Boys State” will be nominated for the Best Documentary Feature Oscar.

Even if “Boys State” doesn’t nab that nom, Apple’s eligible titles for Best Documentary Feature continues to grow.

Bruce Springsteen’s Letter to You” also dropped last week on Apple TV+, which announced

Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Cardi B & More Potential Record-Setters at the 2020 American Music Awards

Swift is also nominated for favorite music video for “Cardigan.” She won last year for “You Need to Calm Down.” She’s vying to become the first two-time winner in the category since it was re-introduced in 2017.

The other nominees for favorite music video are Doja Cat’s “Say So,” Future ft. Drake’s “Life Is Good,” Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande’s “Rain on Me” and The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights.”

Bieber is vying for his fourth award as favorite male artist – pop/rock. That would, likewise, set a record in this category. The Bieb is currently tied for the lead with Barry Manilow, Michael Bolton, Eric Clapton and Michael Jackson, with three awards each.

The other two nominees in that category are Post Malone, who won two years ago, and The Weeknd.

There are separate male and female awards in rap/hip-hop for the first time since 2005, a sign of that genre’s
