‘Borat 2’ Breakout Star Maria Bakalova Says Movie Made Her Mother ‘So Sad’

Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, aside from being exhilaratingly stacked with revealing moments of laugh-out-loud preposterousness, is also notable for introducing the world to the talents of Maria Bakalova.

On Monday, the 24-year-old Bulgarian creative—who brilliantly brings to life the character of Borat’s daughter Tutar in the Amazon Prime sequel—marked her first late night appearance with an interview on James Corden’s Late Late Show. While Bakalova has previously appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live, that appearance (alongside Sacha Baron Cohen) was in character as Tutar.

“I like to live here right now but I’m at the same time looking at—it’s not a good thing—but [COVID-19] actually saved me because you’re wearing masks so I haven’t experienced the thing where people recognize me,” Bakalova told Corden when asked how her life has changed since the movie landed. “So I’m kind of worried [for when] COVID-19 doesn’t exist and people don’t wear

US Kazakh association calls for Borat 2 to be disqualified for awards season

Watch: Borat Subsequent Moviefilm trailer

The Kazakh American Association has petitioned the BAFTAs, the Oscars, the Golden Globes and the DGA Awards to exclude the Borat sequel from consideration from this year’s awards.

In a second salvo agains Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, the non-profit organisation representing Kazakhstani people in the US has said that the film should be disqualified over its racist depiction of their home country.

It has penned a letter, co-signed by the Hollywood Film Academy and the Council on American-Islamic Relations, claiming the film is guilty of ‘ethnic stereotyping and xenophobia’.

“The Kazakh community worldwide is underrepresented and inherently vulnerable,” the letter reads (via Variety).

“Our nation is still recovering from an oppressive colonial past, which is why we do not have substantial media representation.

Kazakh Community Requests Awards Consideration Ban on ‘Borat’ Sequel

The Kazakh American Association is requesting the Academy Awards, Golden Globe Awards, Directors Guild of America Awards and the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards bar Sacha Baron Cohen’s “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” from awards consideration for what it deems racist portrayal of Kazakhs. The petition follows a request to cancel the release of the Amazon Prime Video debut of the film Oct. 23.

The Virginia-based nonprofit organization dedicated to “preserving and promoting” Kazakh heritage and culture in the U.S. slammed the movie and Baron Cohen for adopting a Kazakh persona through his character, a nonsensical Kazakh journalist named Borat Sagdiyev. Kazakhstan, a predominantly Muslim nation, is a Central Asian country that shares a border with Russia in the north, China to the east, and Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan to the south.

The letter, co-signed by the Hollywood Film Academy and Council on American-Islamic Relations, states that the film

Borat 2 star Maria Bakalova on that Rudy Giuliani scene: ‘My heart was racing’

Courtesy Amazon Studios; Richard Drew-Pool/Getty Images

Borat 2 might’ve been Sacha Baron Cohen’s movie, but Maria Bakalova stole scene after scene as the Kazakh journalist’s daughter, Tutar Sagdiyev.

One of her most talked-about moments in the recent Borat sequel involved her interaction with Rudy Giuliani, which later made the rounds on the internet. In the scene, Tutar interviews the former New York City mayor, who’s under the impression she’s a reporter, in a hotel room. Afterward, the two go into a room alone together, where Giuliani is recorded on hidden camera appearing to put his hand down his pants while lying on a bed. Giuliani has since denied he was up to any funny business in the scene, claiming he was just adjusting his shirt.

Fans loved Bakalova’s bold performance and ability to improvise, but the actress revealed to The New York Times that she was understandably “nervous” filming the

‘Borat’ star: Sorry, Trump, no film role for you after loss

It appears “The Apprentice” alum Donald Trump has been fired once again after President-elect Joe Biden defeated him over the weekend.

On Saturday, “Borat” star Sacha Baron Cohen walked back a job offer he had previously made to the president in the event that he did not achieve great success in the election, as Borat would put it.

Now that Biden has been declared the next president of the United States, the English comedian has changed his mind.

“Donald—you’re out of work and I know I offered you a job,” Baron Cohen tweeted shortly after Trump lost the key battleground state of Pennsylvania. “But your performance this past week was tragic and sad. Offer rescinded.”

Last month, Baron

Actor Sacha Baron Cohen, who stars in “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm,” donated $100,000 to the church of a woman who believed she was taking part in a documentary but instead was being featured in the mockumentary comedy film.

Jeanise Jones, 62, thought she had been recruited by her place of worship, Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, in Oklahoma City to mentor a teenager named “Tutar” who came to the U.S. with her father from a developing nation. But Jones didn’t find out until the film was released on Amazon Prime last week that

‘Borat’ Sequel Has Become America’s Second Most-Streamed Movie of the Year

The highly-anticipated Borat sequel hasn’t even been available for a full month yet, but it’s already become the second most-streamed film in the U.S. this year.

Sacha Baron Cohen’s belated sequel to the 2006 comedy classic debuted on Prime Video on Oct. 23, and Variety reports that it attracted enough viewers to come second to Hamilton on Disney+ as the most-streamed feature-length release this year. There weren’t any explicit numbers to show how many people actually watched the film, but the data provided by ScreenEngine/ASI, which surveyed 1,200 viewers age 13-64 weekly, shows that a lot of people watched Borat Subsequent Moviefilm.

The report deduces that there’s currently a high-demand for “premium content among SVOD subscribers.” Other movies in the top ten include My Spy on Prime Video, Extraction on Netflix, and The Trial of the Chicago 7 on Netflix, which also stars Sacha Baron Cohen. The much-talked about

‘Borat 2’ Is Already America’s Number Two Streaming Movie This Year

Despite dropping online not even two full weeks ago, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm has already secured its spot as the number two most-watched streaming movie in America this year, just behind the Disney+ release of Hamilton, according to Variety. Considering the wide popularity of the hit Broadway musical, which absolutely dominated streaming charts over the summer, the Borat sequel’s performance is pretty impressive. 1. Hamilton: The Movie – Disney+
2. Borat Subsequent Moviefilm – Amazon Prime Video
3. My Spy – Amazon Prime Video
4. Extraction – Netflix
5. Phineas & Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe – Disney+

“I know the world thinks I have this angel thing in the bag, but it’s going to be very challenging playing the role. I hope the Queen of England thinks I’m an angel, ’cause I don’t want to get taken out.”

Added Bussman: “Like everyone else, we were in tears at Jeanise’s appearance in the searing documentary Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, where she inspired Borat’s daughter Tutar
