Paulina Garcia joins Mercedes Moran in Magma Cine Dramedy, ‘Norma.’

Argentina’s Magma Cine is powering up a female-dominated slate with some of Latin America’s biggest talent. Chile’s Paulina Garcia, best known for her Berlinale Silver Bear Best Actress-winning performance in Sebastian Lelio’s “Gloria,” plays opposite another giant talent, Argentine thesp Mercedes Moran (“La Cienaga,” “El Angel”) who co-wrote the dramedy “Norma” with Santiago Giralt, who directs it.

“Norma” revolves around the titular character, played by Moran, whose quiet life in a village is upended when her long-time maid of 20 years abruptly resigns. Now 60, she sets off with her new eccentric friend, played by Garcia, in search of the life she has always wanted.

Aubrey Plaza Joins Jason Statham in Guy Ritchie Thriller

“Happiest Season” standout Aubrey Plaza will star opposite Jason Statham in Guy Ritchie’s untitled thriller, formerly titled “Five Eyes.”

Statham will portray an agent recruited by the global intelligence alliance Five Eyes to track down and stop the sale of a deadly new weapon that threatens to disrupt the world order. Reluctantly paired with a high-tech CIA expert, he sets off on a globe-trotting mission to infiltrate a billionaire arms broker.

Miramax is producing and financing, and STX is distributing the movie. Ritchie will direct and produce from a screenplay written by Ivan Atkinson and Marn Davies, with revisions by Ritchie. Atkinson will also produce along with Bill Block for Miramax. CAA Media Finance arranged financing, and brokered the U.S., U.K. and Ireland distribution deal.

STX Films will distribute the movie directly in the U.S., U.K. and Ireland, and STX International launched sales to foreign buyers at the Toronto Film

Julianna Margulies joins ‘The Morning Show’ Season 2

Dec. 2 (UPI) — Julianna Margulies has joined the cast of The Morning Show.

Apple TV+ said in a press release Wednesday that Margulies, 54, will appear in Season 2 of the drama series.

The Morning Show is created by Jay Carson and stars Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon. The show explores the world of morning news through The Morning Show, a fictional morning news program on UBA network.

Margulies will play Laura Peterson, an anchor at UBA News.

The Morning Show is inspired by the Brian Stelter book Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV. The series co-stars Steve Carell, Billy Crudup and Mark Duplass.

Former Patriot Act host Hasan Minhaj was previously announced as a Season 2 guest star. Minhaj will play Eric, a charismatic rising star who joins The Morning Show team.

Helen Hunt Joins Starz’s ‘Blindspotting’ TV Series as Miles’ Mother

Helen Hunt is joining Starz’s “Blindspotting” TV series.

Hunt will play Rainey, the mother of Rafeal Casal’s Miles. The series features Jasmine Cephas Jones reprising her role as Ashley, Miles’ partner, from the 2018 film. Starz’s TV spinoff will follow Ashley, following Miles’ sudden incarceration, as she is forced to move in with Miles’ mother (Hunt) and half-sister.

The film’s co-stars and co-writers Daveed Diggs and Casal will write and executive produce the TV adaptation. Casal will serve as showrunner, while Cephas Jones serves as a producer. Along with Jasmine Cephas Jones and Hunt, the series stars Benjamin Earl Turner, Atticus Woodward, Jaylen Barron and Candace Nicholas-Lippman. Casal will also recur as Miles.

The Mandalorian joins ‘Fortnite’ Season 5 for ‘Zero Point’

Dec. 2 (UPI) — The Mandalorian from Star Wars has joined Fortnite, along with other new characters in the game’s newly released fifth season, titled Zero Point.

Players can unlock The Mandalorian, who comes with his companion The Child — also known as Baby Yoda– through Fortnite’s new Battle Pass.

Zero Point revolves around Agent Jones who oversees Fortnite’s reality and is trying to stop more characters from escaping the game’s loop. Agent Jones has hired a group of hunters to get the job done, including The Mandalorian.

The event will bring new locations to Fortnite’s map including an ancient arena, a jungle and a desert.

Players will be able to acquire quests and bounties from in-game characters and use a new currency named Bars to spend on weapons and upgrades.

Snoop Dogg Joins Katori Hall’s Hurt Village Virtual Reading for Charity

Snoop Dogg, actor Loretta Devine, and “Slave Play” star Joaquina Kalukango are uniting for a virtual reading of Katori Hall’s play “Hurt Village.” The presentation, benefiting the Actors Fund, will broadcast on YouTube Dec. 4-8.

The virtual show’s cast also includes “Stranger Things” actor Priah Ferguson and P-Valley’s J. Alphonse Nicholson.

“Hurt Village” centers around a housing project in Memphis, Tennessee as a government Hope Grant threatens relocation for many of the project’s residents — including 13-year-old aspiring rapper Cookie, her mother Crank and her great-grandmother Big Mama. As the family prepares to move, Cookie’s father Buggy unexpectedly returns from a tour of duty in Iraq.

Hall, who recently received a Tony nomination for writing “Tina: The Tina Turner Musical,” wrote the play “Hurt Village.” It was directed by Steve H. Broadnax III (“The Hot Wing King”).

Allison Elbl Joins Shore Fire Media

Veteran PR exec Allison Elbl has joined top music PR and marketing agency Shore Fire Media, the company announced Monday. Elbl, who starts her new role on Tuesday (Dec. 1), will be a senior vice president of the company, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Dolphin Entertainment, and will head Shore Fire’s Los Angeles office and develop new business opportunities. She will report to Shore Fire CEO Marilyn Laverty and join the senior management team that also includes Mark Satlof, Rebecca Shapiro and Matt Hanks.

Eric Clapton Joins Van Morrison for New ‘Anti-Lockdown’ Song ‘Stand and Deliver’

According to Variety, Van Morrison and Eric Clapton will be releasing a new “anti-lockdown” song next month, at precisely the moment many cities are shutting down once again to stave off a climb in COVID-19 cases, to support Morrison’s “Save Live Music” campaign. The track, titled “Stand and Deliver,” was written by the “Brown-Eyed Girl” singer and will be performed by Clapton. Morrison also previously released three “anti-lockdown” songs earlier this fall, including “Born to Be Free,” “As I Walked Out,” and (in case you weren’t clear on the message of the musician’s most recent work) “No More Lockdown.” Proceeds from the new single, set to drop on December 4, will go to Morrison’s Lockdown Financial Hardship Fund to benefit musicians.

Channing Tatum Joins Lord and Miller Universal Monster Movie

2020 was a year without a Channing Tatum movie, or a Channing Tatum project of any kind, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, Phil Lord and Chris Miller are committed to raising the Kingsman: The Golden Circle actor’s career back up off the slab and into a village full of screaming moviegoers with their upcoming Universal monster movie. The 21 Jump Street directors will reportedly reunite with their leading man in an as-yet-untitled film that would offer a “modern-day, tongue-in-cheek thriller” take on the studio’s movie-monster franchise.

The film’s screenplay will be penned by Wes Tooke, writer of Colony and Midway, based on an idea from Magic Mike and Magic Mike XXL screenwriter Reid Carolin, who is also co-directing Tatum’s upcoming directorial debut, Dog, which stars the actor as an Army Ranger traveling cross-country with his dog for a friend’s funeral.
