Everyone’s favorite cat and mouse are taking their antics to New York City. Warner Bros. Pictures has unveiled a trailer for the upcoming “Tom and Jerry” movie, scheduled for a 2021 theatrical premiere.

While the titular characters are animated in similar styles as the original television show, the new film diverges from tradition with live actors and a real-world set. Chloë Grace Moretz stars as an event planner hired by a hotel to organize a wedding, but she’s also expected to remove a pesky mouse — Jerry — from his recent residence within the building’s walls.

Written by Kevin Costello and based on Joseph Barbera and William Hanna’s classic characters, “Tom and Jerry” revives the decades-old rivalry as Tom is enlisted to help remove Jerry from the premises before the date of the wedding arrives. Cartoon violence ensues as Tom contrives various schemes

lilo-and-stitch-slice

Jon M. Chu, the celebrated and super talented filmmaker behind Crazy Rich Asians and next year’s In the Heights, is set to tackle the latest in the long line of Disney live-action adaptations of their beloved animated features. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Chu has been tapped to direct a new version of modern classic Lilo & Stitch. While the report stresses that the project hasn’t been given the green light and is still very much in development, given Chu’s involvement, this seems more likely than not.

While the search for a new writer is underway to work with Chu (I’m available), the latest draft of the script is by Mike Van Waes. Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, who produced the $1 billion redo of 1990s Disney favorite Aladdin, are on board to produce. At this point it’s unclear whether the film will wind up

Zack Snyder Still Dreams of Turning The Dark Knight Returns Into a Live-Action Movie

Despite leaving the world of DC comic book movies behind for personal reasons, director Zack Snyder is back, and already looking to the future. While audiences wait patiently to see whether The Snyder Cut version of Justice League improves upon the much-maligned theatrical release, Snyder himself has asserted his desire to one day bring a live action take on the seminal graphic novel The Dark Knight Returns to the big screen.

“I saw a tweet recently like ‘Snyder needs to stop reading Dark Knight Returns, he needs to read another Batman comic. I almost tweeted back, I’m sure Jay [Oliva] replied like ‘there aren’t any others!’ I’m so obsessed with that comic. I’ve always thought that maybe one day down the road as a one-off, just as a crusty old Batman, we’d just do it. It’s a dream I have.”
