LONDON (Reuters) – Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey said on Monday that he suspected the central bank’s most recent policy decision on Nov. 5 was leaked to the Sun, and that the newspaper’s report was not simply speculation presented as fact.

Hours before the BoE unexpectedly expanded its bond purchase programme by 150 billion pounds ($200 billion), the Sun reported the BoE would take this action, in an article that also revealed some of finance minister Rishi Sunak’s spending plans.

Grande’s latest album was on top for a second week, as the set earned 82,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending Nov. 12, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. (It debuted atop the list a week ago with 174,000 units earned.)

It feels so dissonant — the good news about vaccines working at the same time as case counts are rising even higher, New York’s shutting down its schools, and states and cities are making the tough decisions to lock back down in the hopes of mitigating even further spread of the virus.

The network covered championships, livestreaming contests on Twitch, and expanded into general gaming coverage.

So, some ESPN staffers were shocked when they were told earlier this month that the company was shutting down its esports division, as a part of a broader round of layoffs. 

My colleagues Dan Whateley and Ashley Rodriguez spoke with laid-off employees and industry insiders about ESPN’s abrupt exit.

“It was kind of shocking,” one laid-off staffer said. “All of us working for esports thought we were working on building something that was very important for ESPN’s future. We really showed that during the pandemic.”

California Saw Fastest-Ever Increase In Covid-19 Cases During First Week Of November

California saw coronavirus cases spike more than 50% during the first week of November, making it the fastest-ever increase in the state as the U.S. experiences a dangerous third resurgence of the coronavirus. 

Key Facts

From November 1 to November 7, the state saw a 51.3% increase in new Covid-19 cases, which is more than the 39.2% increase the state saw in mid-June. 

California Gov. Gavin Newsom said the virus is spreading broadly throughout the state among every age group and demographic.

Because of the surge, 94% of the state’s population—including Ventura, Santa Clara and Alameda counties—will have to shut down bars, indoor dining, gyms and religious institutions again after moving backwards to the most restrictive tier in the state’s reopening
