Borat 2’s Maria Bakalova on the Role & Working with Sacha Baron Cohen

There are movie stars who make a memorable entrance the first time you see them. For Maria Bakalova, it all began with her sitting in a barn, covered in dirt, in “Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm.”

Bakalova’s story has mostly remained a mystery since the film premiered, but recently it has started to emerge. On Tuesday, it was announced she had signed with CAA. On Wednesday, there was a profile in the New York Times. And now, Variety presents a special bonus edition of its Awards Circuit podcast with the up-and-coming actor. Listen below!

Since the sequel to Sacha Baron Cohen’s 2006 smash hit dropped October 23, the world has been taken by the actor playing Borat’s 15-year-old daughter, Tutar. Talk of a best supporting actress nomination started immediately and Bakalova watched her IMDb StarMeter rocket to the top.

After The Defeat Of Donald Trump, Sacha Baron Cohen Turns His Attention To Mark Zuckerberg

Sacha Baron Cohen must be thrilled that Donald Trump, the subject that sparked most of Borat Subsequent Movefilm’s hijinks, has officially lost the 2020 election to Joe Biden.

But the master prankster has no shortage of targets; Baron Cohen celebrated Trump’s humiliating defeat by posting a picture on Twitter, depicting Trump and Zuckerberg together with a caption that reads: “One down, one to go.”

I can’t think of a better subject for an elaborate, televised prank than Mark Zuckerberg, the awkward Facebook founder with the uncanny-valley haircut; the man would practically short-circuit when faced with one of Baron Cohen’s hilarious alter-egos.

But Zuckerberg’s inability to mimic normal human behaviour isn’t what makes him the perfect target for Baron Cohen (although, it certainly doesn’t hurt). Rather, it’s the fact that he, along with most of our other billionaire tech overlords, has greatly contributed to

Actor Sacha Baron Cohen, who stars in “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm,” donated $100,000 to the church of a woman who believed she was taking part in a documentary but instead was being featured in the mockumentary comedy film.

Jeanise Jones, 62, thought she had been recruited by her place of worship, Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, in Oklahoma City to mentor a teenager named “Tutar” who came to the U.S. with her father from a developing nation. But Jones didn’t find out until the film was released on Amazon Prime last week that

Sacha Baron Cohen Explains How An Encounter With TSA Security Almost Cost The Film Its Scene With Mike Pence

Click here to read the full article.

In Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm, Sacha Baron Cohen’s Kazakh journalist persona gains access to some of the nation’s most powerful men. However, like the Rudy Giuliani scene, the film’s CPAC moment with Mike Pence nearly fell apart, Baron Cohen revealed on Monday.

The Trial of the Chicago 7 actor told Ellen DeGeneres on The Ellen Show that a security screening and encounter with the TSA at the conservative event nearly revealed his true identity. In the sequel, directed by Jason Woliner, the titular character dresses as President Donald Trump to deliver his daughter Tutar (Maria Bakalova) as a bride for Vice President Pence.

“I got into a different disguise, got past the CPAC security and the TSA were actually kind of “wanding” me…it went past my chest and it beeped and I was terrified,” Baron Cohen said to the talk show host.

Sacha Baron Cohen Donates $100,000 to Community of Babysitter Duped in ‘Borat’ Sequel

Sacha Baron Cohen has donated $100,000 to charities in the Oklahoma City area in the name of Jeanise Jones, the unemployed babysitter who was duped by the actor in a sizable cameo in “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm.”

Derrick Scobey, the pastor at Jones’ Ebenezer Baptist Church who will distribute the funds at Jones’ request, told People about Baron Cohen’s donation. The money will be used for shelter, food and relief from ice storms and power outages currently facing the city, he said.

A rep for Baron Cohen had no comment.

“I was blown away but not surprised because I was told about what type of heart this man has,” Scobey told People about Baron Cohen’s donation. “Maybe it’s a little risqué, some of the things in the movie, but he has a good heart.”

Fans of “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” have raised over $50,000 for Jeanise Jones, the grandmother who appears in the film and is hired to babysit Borat’s daughter, Tutar, after Jones revealed that she was compensated only $3,600 for her time.

According to a GoFundMe started for Jones by her pastor, she did not realize she was filming a “Borat” movie — and is currently unemployed due to pandemic-related downsizing at the Oklahoma City insurance company where she’s worked for three decades.

In a series of interviews published this week, Jones and her pastor Derrick Scobey explained just how convincing Sacha Baron Cohen and co-star Maria Bakalova were.

Jones appears in two scenes in “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm,” in which Borat asks Jones to look after his 15-year-old daughter, Tutar (Bakalova) and brings her into her home wearing a ball and chain. She then learns that

Sacha Baron Cohen hits back at Rudy Giuliani over ‘Borat’ scene

Rudy Giuliani insists there was nothing “inappropriate” about his behavior in scenes featured in the new “Borat” movie. Sacha Baron Cohen, who plays Borat, begs to differ.

In an appearance on Stephen Colbert’s “The Late Show” on CBS on Monday, Baron Cohen was asked to respond to the former New York City mayor, who has said he was tucking in his shirt during a scene in which he appears to put his hand down his pants in the presence of an actress pretending to be a reporter.

“He has denied that he actually was doing anything untoward toward this 24-year-old woman playing your 15-year-old daughter,” Colbert said. “Do you have anything to say to Rudy Giuliani about going into a bedroom with supposedly a teenage girl to drink whiskey and zip your pants up and down?”

Baron Cohen pushed back on Giuliani’s characterization of the scene.

“Well, he said that

Watch: Sacha Baron Cohen says he wore a bulletproof vest for ‘Borat 2’ on ‘The Late Show’

Oct. 27 (UPI) — Sacha Baron Cohen appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to discuss his new Borat film and how he had to wear a bulletproof vest for the sequel.

Cohen, in the film, pretends to be a country singer in character as Borat who sings a song about the COVID-19 virus titled “The Wuhan Flu” at a gun rally. The crowd, who was singing along, grew angry once they found out his identity.

“Word got out that it was me and then the organizers and a lot of people in the crowd, got very angry. They tried to storm the stage. Luckily for me I had hired the security so it took them a while to actually storm the stage,” Cohen told Colbert about the experience on Monday.

Colbert played footage of the incident which involved Cohen rushing off stage and getting away in a vehicle.

After Trump called the English comedian an unfunny “phony” and “a creep” in response to his buzzy new mockumentary, “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm,” Baron Cohen had a message for the president on Twitter.

“Donald—I appreciate the free publicity for Borat!” the actor and producer tweeted Saturday. “I admit, I don’t find you funny either. But yet the whole world laughs at you. I’m always looking for people to play racist buffoons, and you’ll need a job after [Inauguration Day on] Jan. 20. Let’s talk!”

Trump calls Sacha Baron Cohen ‘a creep,’ Cohen responds

Maya Rudolph, Jim Carrey and Alec Baldwin returned as “Saturday Night Live” spoofed the last debate between Joe Biden and President Donald Trump.

President Donald Trump called Sacha Baron Cohen “a creep” after previously unseen footage from the new “Borat” movie was shared to Twitter on Friday by Borat’s official account.

While speaking to reporters on Air Force One on Friday, Trump was asked whether he was worried about security breaches after footage showed an actress from the movie apparently getting into the White House. He told reporters that he doesn’t “know what happened” and followed his answer up with commentary on Baron Cohen.

“Years ago, you know, he tried to scam me,” Trump said, noting Baron Cohen had disguised himself as a BBC anchor, according to a copy of the pool report obtained by USA TODAY. “That’s a phony guy. And I don’t find him funny.”
